Auditions

Membership in the GFYO is by audition. The audition process is intended to ensure that new members are a good fit for the orchestra and to offer new musicians the chance to get acquainted with the artistic and administrative staff of the GFYO.

Perhaps the best way for interested students to learn about the orchestra is to talk with current members of the GFYO. Ask about the audition process, repertoire, rehearsals, concerts and any other questions you might have. If you're thinking of auditioning, please review the membership policies pdf on this page so that you know what is expected of all members.

Live auditions are held three times per year: September, December and May. Next round of auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Call Jessie at the Symphony for an appointment, 406-453-4102.

After scheduling an audition appointment, please download the audition form and the excerpt that corresponds to your instrument below. Please bring your completed audition form with you to the audition. All auditions are held on stage at the Civic Center Mansfield Theater.

Audition requirements:

• excerpt (required for all instruments except harp and piano)- please download your instrument's excerpt below
• solo piece of your choice (optional)
• sightreading and scales selected at the audition (required)
